Enhancement Project

Background

The East Kilbride Enhancement Project is a significant part of the Scottish Government’s ambitious initiative to decarbonise passenger services across Scotland’s Railway. This project focuses on electrifying the route from East Kilbride to Glasgow, promoting carbon-free travel and reflecting a big step towards sustainable transportation.

Project Summary

In collaboration with Amco Giffen, Westlin were involved in the civil and platform works essential for the project’s success. The scope of work at Hairmyers Station included the installation of all associated civils works for both 175m platforms, alongside a 28m platform extension at East Kilbride Station. Key tasks executed by Westlin encompassed the installation of various reinforced concrete foundations and precast platform Z Units. Additionally, the project involved the setting up of Cubis multi duct and stakka boxes to support platform services, including lighting column bases, and the installation of platform coping and Aco drainage systems.

Key Achievements / Outcomes:

The East Kilbride Enhancement Project marks a milestone in Scotland’s journey towards a greener railway system, with Westlin at the forefront of executing critical infrastructure enhancements. Westlin ensured the seamless integration of modern, efficient platforms at Hairmyers and East Kilbride stations, setting the foundation for the introduction of electric trains. This project enhances the travel experience for commuters and also reduces carbon emissions.
