The Doon Viaduct is a five span railway bridge which was originally constructed in1856 and widened in circa 1894 and is used to carry all rail transport on the STR1 from Ayr to Stranraer over the River Doon.
As part of Network Rail CP5 Framework and following a detailed examination report it revealed various elements of spalling, loose, broken and displaced masonry elements along with masonry fractures and premature weathering of joints both above and below the waterline.
Westlin Rail were commissioned by Amco Scotland to carry out the bespoke in situ concrete scour protection works to piers 2 and 3.
