SSE River Garry Intake
Designed to create a hands off flow in the River Garry downstream of the Garry Intake
The SSE River Garry Intake Weir project is located adjacent to the A9 on the west side, north of Calvine and was designed to create a hands off flow in the River Garry downstream of the Garry Intake weir.
The completed works comprised coring through the existing dam wall, the construction of a reinforced chamber housing valves to control the water flow, installation of fusion welded twin wall pipe which terminated in the cored opening and was completed by a new intake screen, access platform and ladders.
Working in partnership with AMCO Scotland Westlin Rail successfully installed all formwork, reinforcement and concrete to construct the new reinforced concrete chamber ensuring that this logistically and technically challenging project was delivered safely and ahead of programme.
- The completion of the intake chamber will allow general flow to be released into the Garry Intake in dry weather and allow control to reduce the flow in wet weather as required whilst maintain waterflow further downstream at all times.
- Provides an opportunity to restore parts of the River Garry system to for spawning and juvenile fish whilst also significantly increasing the number of adult salmon running the River Tay, Tummel and Garry
- All works carried out through close dialogue and in accordance with Amco, SSE and SEPA’s policies and procedures.
