Electrification Project

Lennymuirs Compund

Electrification Project

Background

As part of the Haymarket to Dalmeny electrification project, Westlin were tasked by SPL Powerlines with the construction of the Lennymuirs compound. The compound is designed to support the electrification efforts, serving as an access, storage, and prefabrication hub for the ensuing civil and overhead line works.

Project Summary

The project required Westlin to minimise the scope of earthworks starting from the developmental design stages to maximise the utilisation of the proposed compound, given the site’s existing topography limitations.

Key activities undertaken by Westlin included site clearance, earthworks profiling for a 10,000 m2 compound, and the installation of approximately 4,500 tons of aggregate material. Additionally, the construction of reinforced concrete bell mouth access, perimeter compound lighting, and fencing.

Key Achievements / Outcomes:

Throughout the Lennymuirs compound project, Westlin played an instrumental role in laying the groundwork for the H2D electrification project, ensuring that all subsequent civil and overhead line works could proceed smoothly and efficiently. The project highlights Westlin’s capacity to handle complex logistical and engineering challenges and its commitment to supporting Scotland’s transition to a greener, more resilient railway network.
